Scratch-Made Homemade Apple Pie

Nothing beats a delicious homemade apple pie, scratch-made and baked to golden perfection. With a flaky, buttery crust and a sweet, spiced filling, this apple pie is sure to become a family favorite.
Ingredients
For the Pie Crust:
- 170g Butter, cold and cubed
- 8 Tbsp Cold Water
- 315g Snowflake Cake Wheat Flour
- 1 tsp Salt
For the Pie Filling:
- 1kg Granny Smith Apples, cored, peeled, and sliced
- 150g Sugar
- 2 Tbsp Snowflake Cake Wheat Flour
- 1 Pinch of Salt
- 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
- 1 Pinch of Nutmeg
- 1 Lemon, halved (juice of one half only)
To Top:
- 1 Egg, beaten
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
Method
- Prepare the Pie Crust:
- Mix the flour and salt in a bowl.
- Add the cubed butter and mix until pea-sized clumps form.
- Gradually add cold water until the dough comes together (you may not need all the water). The dough should not be too tacky or sticky.
- Form the dough into a ball, cover, and refrigerate.
- Prepare the Pie Filling:
- In a bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Mix well, then cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 200ºC.
- Roll Out the Dough:
- On a floured surface, cut the pie dough in half and roll out both halves to about 3 mm thick.
- Roll the dough onto your rolling pin and unroll it onto a pie dish, making sure the dough reaches all edges. Trim the excess dough.
- Assemble the Pie:
- Pour the apple filling into the pie crust and pat down.
- Roll out the remaining dough and place it over the top of the filling.
- Trim the excess dough from the edges and crimp the edges together.
- Top and Bake:
- Brush the pie with the beaten egg and sprinkle with sugar.
- Cut slits in the top crust to create vents. Decorate with pastry offcuts if desired.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
- Serve:
- Allow the pie to cool slightly before serving warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
