Enhanced Security for Table Mountain Hiking Routes
Table Mountain’s hiking trails are experiencing a new level of safety with the introduction of the Cobras Mountain Protection Team. This newly launched initiative is providing vigilant patrols across the iconic trails of Lion’s Head, Signal Hill, and Camps Bay.
For the past two months, the Cobras Mountain Protection Team has been actively monitoring these popular hiking routes. Funded by a collaboration of City Bowl and Atlantic Seaboard businesses, along with private contributors, this initiative aims to ensure the well-being of hikers.
The presence of these dedicated security personnel has been a significant deterrent to potential criminals, with no reports of violent crime along the patrolled routes. This improved safety has also led to a noticeable increase in hikers, reflecting a renewed public confidence and positively impacting local communities.
Jacques van Embden, CEO of Blok, emphasizes the importance of preserving Cape Town’s world-class outdoor spaces. “Our commitment is to safeguard these treasures through enhanced patrols. The Cobras Mountain Protection Team plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of everyone who enjoys these scenic trails.”
Marc Sternberg from The Cobras management committee expresses pride in the initiative: “We are thrilled to see the Cobras Mountain Protection Team in action. Our goal is to restore confidence in the mountain for hikers and to deter criminal activity. We want both residents and visitors to experience Table Mountain with peace of mind.”
In addition to focusing on Lion’s Head, Signal Hill, and Camps Bay, the Cobras Mountain Protection Team also contributes to the overall safety of Table Mountain, enhancing the hiking experience for all.
